Evaluation of the ERA5 Sea Surface Temperature Around the Pacific and the Atlantic

Sea surface temperature (SST) is a key factor for both climate and weather. Most studies focus on evaluation of satellite SSTs in different oceanic regions, but the performance ERA5 reanalysis SST datasets (ERA5 SSTs) has not been systematically evaluated. In this article, buoy measurements from 46 National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) sites around Pacific Atlantic are used to make an analysis deviations hourly basis its variations daily basis. Overall, have global coverage with $- 0.04\,\,^{\circ }\text{C}$ bias 4.60 °C standard deviation study area. It worthwhile notice that exhibit significant differences amplitude phasing their spatial patterns. The products found meet accuracy criterion, except near coastal areas, which may result near-coastal mixture effect warm SST. results reveal completely capture diurnal variability under all wind speed conditions, especially situation when above 6 m/s.
